The Białowieża Forest, located between Poland and Belarus, is a primeval forest, a biotope, and, to this day, a scene of extreme violence. In the German-Polish production “Wood Wood Wood”, four performers explore the turbulent history of this region on the EU’s external border. And right in the middle of it all: a DJ at his console, busy looping the past and the present.

Events with a strong sound or text

We have sought the expertise of blind audiences when planning our program. Thanks to their assessment, we have labeled events which are interesting for blind and visually impaired audiences even without audio description or tactile tour.

Before the shows, we also offer an introduction for blind and visually impaired audiences.

The following shows are without audio description, but are also exciting for blind and visually impaired audiences thanks to their special sound dramaturgy:

Keine Veranstaltungen in diesem Bereich

For Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Visitors

Highly visual events / without language

In the following shows there is little or no speech. We also mark seats in the auditorium where the musical vibration is particularly noticeable.

Raub und Besitz is a riotous blend of songs, stand-up, agitprop, and video that, across Turkish, Kurdish, English, and German, asks who really owns what: land, language, wealth, and the power to shape the narrative.

Relaxed Performance

Relaxed Performance means that the atmosphere at these events is more relaxed than what one might be used to in a theatre. This is intended to make it more enjoyable, especially for those who find it difficult to sit still in hard chairs for long periods of time (for example, autistic people, people with Tourette’s, people with learning difficulties or chronic pain).

The aim is to adapt conventional theater etiquette so that everyone can experience a performance in a relaxed atmosphere. Among other things, this means:

– the Relaxed Performance is announced before the performance begins
– noises and movements from the audience are welcome
Freedom of movement is given: The audience is allowed to leave and re-enter the room at any time, for example to go to the toilet or to get some fresh air
– We offer alternative seating in the form of cozy beanbags in the front row
– In addition, there is often the option of early boarding, i.e. early admission to the auditoriumto get used to the space and lighting situation and to find your seat in peace.

These criteria are possible in a Relaxed Performance, but not all of them are always guaranteed. Check Accessibility on each event page for further details:

BMW: a global corporation built on the labor of workers like Emine Ulusen, Evgenia Karakolidis, and Anayurt Kırımli. Nihan Devecioğlu creates a space of remembrance: through music and video, and in both German and Turkish, Yoldaş sensitively tells stories of exclusion, hard work, and female solidarity.

About this Website

What are content notes / sensitive content?

In our description texts we often do not give detailed information about what happens on stage. We do this because many visitors like to be surprised. You will find all the important information on sensitive content and triggers, and on sensory stimuli such as sounds and effects, at the bottom of the respective project pages under “Content Notes”. This way, you can decide for yourself whether or not you want to be exposed to the content in question.

What do the icons in the calendar and the events mean?

We mark all events with icons on various accessibility topics. Here is a detailed description or so called “Accessibility Key”:

  • alternative seating

We offer alternative seating in the form of cozy beanbags in the front row.
  • audio description

This service allows blind and vision impaired people to enjoy the show by having trained describers capture the action, costumes, sets, transitions, gestures, facial expressions and lighting or special effects in a performance. This is transmitted via a discreet headset/earpiece worn by the patron.
  • DGS (german sign language)

This show is providing DGS interpreted events or events with Deaf performers. Check Accessibility on each event page for further details. German Sign Language, abbreviated to DGS, is the visual-manual language used primarily by Deaf and hard of hearing people in Germany to communicate with each other and with hearing people
  • Early Boarding

Early Boarding is an early admission approx. 30 minutes before the start of the performance. It assists visitors with visible or non-visible disabilities who wish to arrive early so that they can choose a suitable seat in peace and get used to the room and light situation in a relaxed way.
  • free / no entrance fee

This event is free of charge.
  • Highly auditory event

We have labeled events which are interesting for blind and visually impaired audiences thanks to their special sound dramaturgy even without audio description or tactile tour.
  • Highly visual events / without language

In visual events there is little or no speech. This show has minimal dialogue, and only some background music and/or sounds. We also mark seats in the auditorium where the musical vibration is particularly noticeable.
  • Open Captioning / Surtitles

Captions will be displayed on a screen on stage enabling the audience to read what is being said. It is always in view and cannot be turned off.
  • Tactile Tour

This allows blind and visually impaired participants to fully immerse themselves in live performances before the curtain rises. Approx. 1 hour before the performance, participants of the tactile tour can feel the stage set, costumes and props and make contact with the performers. This provides them with contextual information that can be understood by sighted visitors through visual perception.
  • Wheelchair Access

This venue/location is wheelchair accessible or has been made accessible for the festival. If this symbol is not displayed, access may be limited. Designated wheelchair spaces will be sold at the lowest price in the house for that performance.
