In Orchids, three dancers delve into non-hegemonic forms of masculinity, shedding societal expectations that dictate men should be tough, strong, and invulnerable. Naked and with tactile movements, they cultivate a language of gentleness and compassion. A profound intimacy blossoms among them, where their bodies serve as catalysts for desire and dreams. Léonard Engel’s new work, born from dialogues and guided improvisation, illuminates the radical potential of tenderness.

“So there it is, the body from scratch, in a kind of laboratory from which all external influences are locked out. The mere fact that Engel’s performers expose themselves to this vacuum and to our gaze redefines the concept of courage.“ (Sabine Leucht, tanznetz.de)

„...power for the people: use your body... use your voice... make a choice...“
Cheerleading codes, familiar from sporting events, are both employed and subverted in this dance piece to convey unique messages. Glamour, glitter, and an eclectic mix of slogans create a joyful and ironic alternative to traditional forms of protest. Radical Cheerleading poses the question: what causes are worth taking to the streets for?

What if human bodies could be used to generate energy? This raises critical questions about which bodies are considered "usable" under this paradigm and which are not. The immersive performance Blackouts explores these issues by transforming visitors into a collective human power plant, blending party and capitalism into a complex narrative. Is this a solution to the climate crisis or merely a new form of exploitation? Are you a cog in the machine or the sand that grinds it to a halt?
